Pitt Cyber Announces New Affiliate Scholar

Pitt Cyber announced that Brian Murphy is joining the Institute as an affiliate practice scholar. Pitt Cyber Affiliate Practice Scholars join Pitt Cyber from across disciplines and industries to collaborate and be a source of practical experience and expertise for research and experiential learning. 

Murphy is managing director of Logically.AI, which works to help combat mis and disinformation, using a combination of artificial intelligence and human expertise. He was previously Principal and Acting Under Secretary for Intelligence at the Department of Homeland Security. Murphy spent twenty-six years in federal service fighting local, national, and international threats to US security. Murphy was also previously the Chief Intelligence Officer, Chief Information Sharing Officer, and Chief Counterintelligence Officer during his career at DHS. He was a highly decorated FBI agent, serving over twenty years. Murphy also currently serves as an adjunct professor at Georgetown University.

Murphy holds his Bachelor’s degree from William & Mary, a MA from Columbia University, and a PhD from Georgetown University.
