Pitt Cyber Announces New Affiliate Practice Scholar Sean Sweeney

Pitt Cyber announced today that Sean Sweeney is joining the institute as an affiliate scholar. Sweeney is senior director and chief security advisor in Microsoft’s Cybersecurity Solutions Group. In this role, he is responsible for aligning and mobilizing cybersecurity advisors and architects across the United States, Canada, and Latin America to deliver thought leadership and customer engagement. He is also responsible for engaging with the security industry through public speaking, standards development, and advanced research, as well as providing strategic direction on products and services, and advising customer CxOs on security and compliance issues. 

Prior to joining Microsoft, Sweeney served as a chief information security officer of the University of Pittsburgh, principal and co-founder of a Pittsburgh-based eDiscovery startup, chief information officer for a national law firm based in Pittsburgh, and litigation support applications manager for the U.S. Department of Justice in Washington, D.C.

Sweeney is a steadfast champion of cybersecurity workforce development and a frequent author and speaker on security and compliance.

Affiliate Practice Scholars from across disciplines and industries join Pitt Cyber’s Affiliate Scholars, faculty from across the University of Pittsburgh, to collaborate and be a source of practical experience and expertise for research, experiential learning, and discussion.
