Inaugural Polytechnic Career Awareness Event to be held in Indiana County, PA

Attention Parents and Educators: Discover the jobs of tomorrow

Students encouraged to attend!

Blairsville, Pa. – The Challenge Program, Inc. will present their Polytechnic Career Awareness Event, new to the Indiana County region. The event is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, October 11, 2017 from 6:00PM to 8:00PM at Blairsville High School—the evening is free and open to all Indiana County high schools and residents! This informational event is to introduce parents, educators, and students to the in-demand, careers available in our region today and in the future. Students are encouraged to attend with their parents. A panel of success stories, regional employers and resources are scheduled for the event. “Polytechnic” is an umbrella term that means many technologies, encompassing a wide-range of industries including manufacturing, healthcare, energy, Information Technology and the skilled trades—all with available careers that offer family-sustaining wages.

The format for the event will be divided into two sessions. The first session will include a brief welcome, to discuss the changing and current workforce needs in our communities and the availability of family-sustaining careers. Directly following will be a Q&A session with a “Polytechnic Success Story Panel”. The “Polytechnic Success Story Panel” is a panel of individuals who have had success with the career and educational pathways being focused on in this event. Parents, educators and students will have the opportunity to ask questions to the panelists about their careers, and the education and resources that helped to get them there.

The remainder of the event will be a career-fair style of networking with regional employers and the available education and training resources to gain entry into these careers. Act 48 credits are available to educators attending the event. The evening will also feature a cookie-baking contest among Indiana County high schools.

The evening will also include a drawing for cash scholarships; one $500 award (courtesy of NCDMM) and two $250 awards (courtesy of NCDMM & The Indiana County Chamber) will be given away. Each attending student and parent will be given one entry into the drawing—you must be present for the 7:30PM drawing to win!
