Josh Zhou

  • COO and Co-Founder, Steel City Codes

Josh Zhou is currently a senior at the North Allegheny Senior High School in Wexford, PA. He is the COO and Co-Founder of Steel City Codes, a 501(c)3 dedicated to providing educational opportunities for young students in computer science. Steel City Codes has two main goals: educating young students in computer science and reducing discrimination in STEM fields. They do this by offering completely cost-free computer science activities in the form of summer camps, after-school programs, and more.

Josh started Steel City Codes during his sophomore year of high-school alongside Akshana Dassanaike-Perera, the CEO of the organization. In its first two years, Steel City Codes has offered 4 different sessions of summer camp, teaching 460 elementary and middle school students from across the Greater Pittsburgh area and offering free lunch to low-income students. Since then, it has expanded into cities outside of Pittsburgh such as Erie, Johnstown, Allentown, and more to further its mission and impact.

Josh plans to study computer science and entrepreneurship in college. Although he does not know where he will attend yet, he does know that he will continue to lead Steel City Codes for many years to come.
